This rock-styled riff uses the blues scale in E and a shuffle feel. You’ll notice that the Root (E) and minor seventh (D) are prominently used. In the last two measures, you’ll hear the minor third (G) and fourth (A) The bends are used to bend up from the fourth (A) to the flatted fifth (Bb), which is what differentiates the blues scale from the minor pentatonic scale.
This week’s riff was written and performed by Charles Gervase.
